Horses of a different color: WWU students ride at Color Breed Congress

Five
western riders from William Woods University recently rode at the Color Breed
Congress in Tulsa, Okla., bringing back a champion high point, reserve high
point and eight blue ribbons.

The
Color Breed Congress includes horses from four separate breed associations.
More than 600 exhibitors competed, representing 34 states and two foreign
countries.

Four
of the riders competed on WWU-owned horses, while Emily Triesch of San Diego,
Calif., competed on her personal horse.

“Being able to bring my horse along with the William Woods
horses was such a wonderful and rewarding experience,” Triesch said. “The
horses we competed against were truly amazing and I can’t wait to go back and
do it again!”

Jennie Petterson, assistant professor of equestrian studies
and western instructor, coached students at the show.

“The quality and quantity of horses this year was very
impressive. I am always thrilled when our students and horses can be successful
in such a competitive environment,” she said.
