Area high school students will have the opportunity to showcase their scholastic abilities during an academic tournament hosted by William Woods University Saturday (March 29).
South Callaway High School, School of the Osage, Centralia and Cole County R-5/Eugene have registered to participate in the round-robin tournament.
The theme of the tournament is “Scientia potentia est,” a quote from Sir Francis Bacon that translates, “Knowledge itself is power.”
Registration for the tournament starts at 8:30 a.m. in the Burton Business and Economics Building on the Fulton campus. The competition will begin at 9 a.m. and continue into the afternoon.
The tournament has been sanctioned by the Missouri State High School Activities Association, and will follow MSHSAA rules of play.
The tournament is sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society at WWU. Several club members participated in quiz bowls in high school and are excited to be hosting the event. All team participants will receive a special commemorative t-shirt and be treated to lunch.
