Greek Week Planned by William Woods, Westminster Students

Fraternities and sororities at William Woods University and Westminster College are planning to celebrate Greek Week March 31 to April 4. The week consists of community service projects and fun events to benefit the community and promote Greek Life.

The Up ’til Dawn finale is the first event. In November, teams of students sent out letters asking for donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Their efforts will be rewarded with games, food and prizes from 4:30-6:30 p.m. March 31 on the lawn behind Serena Hall.

The Greek Week Kick-Off will commence at 6:30 p.m. with a barbecue, music, games and a third party vendor for those of the legal drinking age. Students, Greek or non-Greek, are invited.

A Mud Volleyball Tournament will be held at 4 p.m. April 1 at Westminster College. Each of the six Greek Week teams (which consists of two to three chapters from each campus) will create eight-player teams to compete in a sloppy game of volleyball.

The band, “Fooling April,” will play at 7:30 p.m. April 2 in Mueller Leadership Hall at Westminster. This is an opportunity for Greek chapters from both campuses to mingle and enjoy themselves.

Comedian Jen Kober will perform stand-up comedy for the Greeks during Comedy Night April 3 at 8 p.m. in Westminster College’s Hunter Activity Center.

“Meet the Greeks” Day is the last event of Greek Week. This day encourages chapter members to visit each other’s houses to socialize from noon to 4 p.m. April 4.

Points will be awarded to each Greek Week team, based on participation in the various events and community service projects offered throughout the week.

The winner of Greek Week will be announced April 5 at William Woods, prior to the start of the “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event, in which men will wear high heels to raise money for CARDV (the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence). Sponsored by the fraternities of Phi Gamma Delta and Pi Kappa Alpha, the walk is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

At the conclusion of the week, a donation will be made to the Fulton Senior Center on behalf of Greek Week.
