Glen Ellyn Resident Named Outstanding at WWU

Sable Handke, of Glen Ellyn, Ill., a sophomore at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Sophomore Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 19.


She is the daughter of Gregory and Melinda Handke.


The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.


Handke is vice president of fraternity relations for Alpha Chi Omega sorority and a member of Student Alumni Council, Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity, Social Work Club, Up till Dawn and College Republicans.


Her community service involvement includes CARD-V (Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence), Take Back the Night, Out of the Darkness (suicide prevention and education), SERVE (a community agency that provides a variety of services for residents of Callaway County, volunteering at the United Way and various other philanthropic activities.
