Fulton Residents Named Outstanding Students

Megan Means of Fulton, a freshman at William Woods University, received the Exemplary Leadership Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 23.

In addition, four students from Fulton and one from Auxvasse received Student Alumni Council Outstanding Student Awards. They are Ginger Hilpipre, Outstanding Freshman; Molly McTaggart, Outstanding Sophomore, and Leslie Bechtel, Outstanding Junior, all of Fulton, and Troy Boulware of Auxvasse, Outstanding Junior.

The Exemplary Leadership Award recognizes a student with proven, successful leadership skills. Campus organizations are encouraged to nominate “someone with vision, energy, integrity and the demonstrated ability to motivate others to accomplish the organization’s goals.”

Means was nominated by her sorority, Delta Gamma, and selected for the honor by the Leaders-Scholars organization. A 4.0 grade point average student, she is a member of President’s 20, Campus Ambassadors and the communications club, Woods Wire. She received the Outstanding Freshman award from Delta Gamma, for which she is vice president of foundation. She has been selected to serve as an orientation assistant in the fall.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.
