Fulton Resident Named Outstanding Senior

Tonia Nelson, a senior at William Woods University, received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Senior Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 20. She is the daughter of Gene and Pam Nelson of Fulton.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

Named Outstanding Freshmen were Kara Haithcoat of Columbia and Sable Handke of Glen Ellyn, Ill.

Selected as Outstanding Sophomores were Erica Dyer of Odessa, Mo.; Lynn Frydrych of Butternut, Wis.; Lauren McMichael of Houston, Texas, and Courtney Yantes of Plain City, Ohio.

Chosen as Outstanding Juniors were Shanna Lonsberry of Elsberry, Mo., and Alarie Sims of Blue Springs, Mo.

In addition to Nelson, Outstanding Seniors were Krystal Bennett of Couch, Mo.; Zach Duffy of Janesville, Wis., and Andrea Rosser of Foristell, Mo.

Nelson has been involved in a number of leadership roles on campus. She was sophomore class president, alumni phone-a-thon call manager and a member of Student Alumni Council, Student Assembly, University Ambassadors, Students for Social Work, Campus Activities Board and Up ’til Dawn for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

She is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and has served as vice president for recruitment, philanthropy chair, social chair and collegiate recruitment information chair. She has served on the risk management committee, recruitment committee, continuous open bidding committee and the chapter relations and standards board.

In addition, she is a member of Order of Omega honorary for Greeks, Impact WWU and Westminster and Impact Alpha Chi Omega.
