Former San Rafael Resident Named Outstanding at WWU

Kristin Smith of San Francisco, a sophomore at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Sophomore Award at the university’s co-curricular honors banquet, April 19.

Formerly of San Rafael, she is the daughter of Kevin Smith.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.

Smith is a community advisor, vice president of recruitment for Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Up ’til Dawn public relations chair and managing editor of Echoes newspaper.
She is also a member of Student Alumni Council, the volleyball team and College Democrats.

She volunteered for two months in the summer of 2005 in Belize, Central America, where she wrote, edited, translated and designed articles, brochures and grant proposals for different organizations and publications in the Cayo District of Belize. She also is involved in various other philanthropic activities.
