Families from across the country will arrive at William Woods University to reunite with children and get a taste of college life during the upcoming Fall Family Weekend. The event, scheduled for Oct. 15-17, will keep students and their families busy with the numerous activities WWU is offering.
A couple hundred parents are expected to attend Fall Family Weekend. In an effort to keep them connected with academia at WWU, they are welcome to attend classes with their student on Friday. Later that afternoon, there is another “class” for parents-only to attend. Sherry McCarthy, WWU academic dean, will share strategies for helping students succeed in their academic lives.
Saturday, students and their families are invited to have coffee and meet informally with WWU President Jahnae H. Barnett, faculty, administrators and staff. The president will provide a brief update on the university.
Giving students (and parents) a break from classes, WWU is offering many activities to keep families occupied over the weekend. An art show in the Mildred M. Cox Gallery will feature recent artwork by WWU faculty and students. The theatre department will present the musical “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” to open its theatre season.
For sports fans, a men’s soccer match will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, with a women’s volleyball match at 7 p.m. Games for the Owls Alumni Classic Women’s Soccer Tournament are scheduled at 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday.
A “Family Golf Outing” takes place Friday and gives parents and their children a chance to golf with other WWU families. The Fall Festival Horse Show, featuring all riding seats, will take place on Saturday.
Closing Fall Family Weekend activities will be a casino night at 9 p.m. Saturday at Tucker Dining Hall. The casino night is sponsored by the Campus Activities Board and offers games, prizes, cash bar, music and fun.
