Criminal Justice Fraternity Introduced at WWU

OfficersIncreased interest in the criminal justice major at William Woods University led to the creation of a local chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Initiation was held Feb. 18.

 


Lambda Alpha Epsilon is a national fraternity for those employed in the criminal justice system or studying criminal justice. Benefits of membership include annual scholarships, conferences and awards, including Gold Key Awards. A Gold Key will be awarded to members who meet the association requirements with a GPA of 3.5 to 4.0.

 

Additionally, the organization provides an opportunity for students to network and make connections with people already working in the criminal justice field.

 

Officers of the Gamma Alpha Zeta chapter of Lambda Alpha Epsilon are Cory Harlan of Wellsville, Mo., president; Kia Coddington of Woodinville, Wash., vice president; Key’onta Johnson of Fayetteville, Ark., secretary; Lacy Gevers of Rhineland, Mo., treasurer, and Shawn Claypool of Jefferson City, Mo., sergeant at arms.

 

Members are Miranda Loesch of Lohman, Mo.; Brian Walsh of Hannibal, membersMo.; Cameo Holly of Columbia, Mo.; Michael Stradford of Bellflower, Mo.; Ashley Clendenen of Eldred, Ill.; Cassandra Bolding of Germantown, Tenn., and Victor Calderon of Fulton, Mo.

 

“I am very excited about this organization. Not only does it provide advancement in a career in criminal justice, homeland security, or juvenile justice, but membership can provide a leg up, and now days a leg up is something that most college graduates appreciate in this job market,” said Harlan.

 

Faculty sponsors are Robert Ahsens, J.D., assistant professor of criminal justice, and Peggy Nickerson, assistant professor of paralegal studies.
