William Woods University recently conducted its ninth annual CourtWarming, announcing the king and queen between the Owls women’s and men’s basketball games against the rival Columbia College Cougars.
Rachael Ostrem was crowned queen and Steve Merriott was crowned king. Members of the court were Kelly Suntrup, Neal Aherin, Sam Harris, Sadie Herrick, Anthony Dewey, Ashley Bauer, Mason Kramer and Austin Lowery.
Festivities included a pep rally, an event highlighting Olympic Gold medalist, Helen Stephens, and a formal open to all students.
Attendees at various events received free CourtWarming t-shirts for bringing non-perishable food items, which later were donated to the food pantry at SERVE, an umbrella agency serving the unmet needs of the county’s underserved population.
Dr. Shawn Hull, director of advancement and former history professor, led a discussion exploring the history of Helen Stephens, a WWU alumna. This event commemorates the 80th anniversary of Stephens winning gold medals in the 1936 Olympics.
