Career-A-Palozza, a time for William Woods University students to learn about life after college, is scheduled for Nov. 9-13 at various locations on campus.
Now in its fourth year, Career-A-Palozza will offer 10 events to help students prepare for the workplace after graduation. Attendees will gather tips on everything from how to dress for a job within budget, to starting a LinkedIn account, to dealing with lease and rental agreements.
LinkedIn guru, Kathy Bernard, president of WiserU, a professional training and coaching company, returns this year to show students how to utilize LinkedIn, network, and turn those connections into job offers.
“Her presentation last year created ‘a buzz’ on campus and prompted the creation of multiple student LinkedIn profiles,” Amy Dittmer, director of career services and student transition, said.
William Woods graduates Joseph Davies and Kristen Garnett will participate theAlumni Speaker Series portion of the week. Davies will share what he learned on the way to his banking career, from living in his car to signing a record deal.
Garnett, digital marketing manager at PRO Food Systems, will show students how to create a personal brand using the experience she gained through 80 applications, 41 interviews and 19 job offers.
During “Career Crawl,” seniors will have the opportunity to connect with various recruiters, community members and alumni in a casual but professional setting.
“The purpose of the event is to facilitate a networking opportunity for seniors who will be entering the work force in the near future,” Dittmer explained. ”Having conversations with people about their goals and career plans are vital to achieving them.”
