Heather Baum of Lynchburg, Va., a senior at William Woods University, has been named to the 2002 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” Baum also received the Student Alumni Council Outstanding Senior Student Award.
The daughter of Douglas and Sally Baum, she was one of nine William Woods University students selected as national outstanding campus leaders.
A campus nominating committee and editors of the annual Who’s Who directory chose the students based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.
Baum joins an elite group of students from more than 2,300 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.
The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership. She received the Outstanding Sophomore Award in 2001.
While at William Woods, Baum has served as vice president of fraternity relations and vice president of membership development for Alpha Chi Omega, co-president of the honorary business fraternity Phi Beta Lambda, communications coordinator of President’s Twenty and secretary of Students for Social Work. She has been a member of Student Alumni Council, Little Brother/Little Sister, University Ambassadors and Campus Activities Board.
She also received the William Woods Achievement Award and a leadership scholarship throughout her career at WWU.
