“Baby With the Bathwater” is a dark comedy about how difficult it is to be a parent, and how scary it is to be a baby and a child. The play is written in an absurdist, playful style and for all its dark topic, has a hopeful ending.
The play begins with Helen and John gazing proudly at their new offspring, a bit disappointed that it doesn’t speak English and too polite to check its sex. They decide that the child is a girl and name it Daisy, which leads to all kinds of future emotional and personality problems when it turns out that Daisy is actually a boy.
Thereafter, in a series of brilliantly theatrical and wildly hilarious scenes, the saga of Daisy’s struggle to establish his identity continues, despite his parents growing obliviousness.
Ticket prices are $8.50 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, WWU students and staff. The production is for mature adults and is not appropriate for children under the age of 13. For tickets, call the box office at (573) 592-4267. For more information, call Potter at (573) 592-4281.
