Auditions set for WWU’s production of ‘Spoon River Anthology’

Auditions for the next theatre production at William Woods University will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, March 3 and 4, in Cutlip Auditorium. The auditions are open, meaning everyone is welcome.

The play is “Spoon River Anthology” by Edgar Lee Masters. Roles for four men and four women are available.

Spoon River Anthology is based on a collection of short free-form poems that collectively narrate the epitaphs of the residents of a small, mid-western town Spoon River during the turn of the 20th century.

“Over 90 separate characters are woven together as we learn about their accomplishments, loves, secrets and regrets,” said Joe Potter, assistant professor of performing arts and artistic director. “Flexible casting and the addition of music, dance and projections will accompany this truly wonderful piece of Americana.”

Spoon River Anthology replaces the previously scheduled “Starmites.” It will be performed at 7:30 p.m. April 23-25 and 2 p.m. April 26. Potter will direct the production and Jane Friedman will design the costumes.
