Athletes at William Woods University are looking for people they can help with cleanup during their Community Service Day.
The Athletics Department is planning the event in conjunction with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ Champions of Character Initiative. Cleanup activities will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29.
Anyone interested in receiving help should contact Shawn Snider, WWU Champions of Character coordinator, at 592-1627 to get signed up for assistance. Scheduling preference will be given to elderly residents and persons with disabilities.
The Champions of Character program is an NAIA initiative focused on character skill training of athletes at member universities and colleges. The program began in 2000, and William Woods has been involved in the initiative for the past three years.
The William Woods University Athletics Department is committed to instilling the five Champions of Character core tenets of respect, integrity, responsibility, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
Men’s sports at WWU are baseball, cross country, golf, soccer, track and volleyball. Women’s sports are basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track and volleyball.
