Associate of Arts Degree Offered in Jefferson City

William Woods University is offering Jefferson City area residents the opportunity to pursue an associate of arts in liberal studies (AA) without quitting work. The program will begin with an orientation at 6 p.m. Sept. 8 at at WWU’s Jefferson City Campus, 919 Wildwood Drive.

Prospective students are encouraged to contact the university’s Graduate & Adult Studies program prior to then, but walk-ins will be accepted. Call 1-800-995-3199 or contact WWU by e-mail at AdultEd@WilliamWoods.edu.

The AA consists of a 64-hour, 21-course program of general education. Completion will qualify a student for admission into a degree-completion program of the university.

Courses are facilitated by practicing professionals. Classes meet one night a week for four hours and courses normally run six weeks. The program makes it possible for a person with a full-time job to complete a degree while remaining employed.

“William Woods University is a leader when it comes to designing quality programs for nontraditional adult students. Everything we do is specifically designed to help adults succeed in reaching their goals as efficiently as possible,” said Sherry McCarthy, vice president and academic dean.

Non-traditional students reflect a growing national trend as more full-time working adults realize the value of maintaining a sustained involvement in higher education. Many adult students recognize that they need additional education either to advance in their current positions or to change careers.

In addition to the AA, William Woods offers several other Graduate & Adult Studies programs, including the ACCESS program of general education, a B.S. in management (BSM), a BSM with human resources emphasis, a B.S. in paralegal studies and a new bachelor of social work degree.

Graduate programs include a master of business administration (MBA), MBAs with accounting, agribusiness, health management or human resources emphasis, a master of education (M.Ed.) in administration, curriculum/instruction or athletics/activities administration and a specialist of education (Ed.S.) in school administration or curriculum leadership.

William Woods can tailor any of its programs for a particular business or community. More information is available on the William Woods web site at TheWoods.edu/evening.
