Arts, Fine Crafts to be Exhibited at William Woods

An exhibition of juried artwork featuring Best of Missouri Hands artists will be held at William Woods University Aug. 14 through Sept. 24.

“A Celebration of Excellence” will be held in the Mildred M. Cox Gallery located in WWU’s Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts. Of 500 pieces originally submitted, 117 were chosen for the exhibit, representing 77 individual artists.

The exhibition will display a cross-section of the current state of Missouri’s arts and fine crafts from members of Best of Missouri Hands. It will contain paintings and drawings, photographs, textiles, ceramics, jewelry, furniture and mixed media.

“A Celebration of Excellence” will be this year’s Natalie Collins Acker Memorial Exhibit, an annual event named for a WWU alumna who was a generous supporter of the arts at William Woods.

Jerry Thomas, an award-winning artist, instructor, author, lecturer and past president of the St Louis Artists’ Guild, will jury the exhibit. Thomas is recognized as an “Artist Laureate” by the St Louis Watercolor Society.

A “meet the artists” reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 24. The Cox Gallery is open to the public, free of charge, Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. Call 573-592-4245 for more information.
