It is the time of year that William Woods University alumni return to campus for Alumni Weekend. This year’s theme is “Rediscover the Woods,” and more than 165 alumni are expected to attend the event, April 21-23.
During a luncheon Saturday, April 22, Neal Clapper ’80 of Switzerland will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award; Thomas S. The weekend starts off with the William Woods/Westminster Alumni Golf Tournament at the Tanglewood Golf Course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 21. The tournament will be a four-person scramble for alumni, friends, spouses and parents.
A $50 fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch and prizes. Registration begins at 9 a.m. that day, but reservations must be made by Wednesday, April 19.
For those not playing golf, there are several other sporting options. At 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday, the Owls baseball team will play Williams Baptist at the WWU Baseball Complex. The Owls basketball team will take on the alumni at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Helen Stephens Sports Complex, and the women’s and men’s soccer teams will challenge the alumni at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively, Sunday at the Firley Soccer Field.
In addition, the Senior ’06 Art Show in the Cox Gallery of the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

William Woods and Westminster alumni are invited to the walkway near WWU’s Senior Lake for a cocktail reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar.
Following the reception will be a gourmet dinner and auction in WWU’s Tucker Dining Hall from 7 to 10 p.m.
For theatre lovers, the play “Baby with the Bathwater” will be performed Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. It is a series of brilliantly theatrical and wildly hilarious scenes, chronicling the saga of Daisy’s struggle to establish his identity despite his parents’ growing obliviousness.
Highlights of the day on Saturday will be the Grande-Dames Breakfast, reunion class pictures, and alumni luncheon and awards. In addition, there will be sorority and fraternity open houses, more campus tours and dinner with current students.
The WWU Spring Dressage Horse show will be in the large indoor arena all day Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday, alumni will be welcome to join students and friends for brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Tucker Dining Hall.
